Project: Perla

Last November Perla Sandoval our Customer Service Representative for Latin America, suffered a serious brain aneurysm that required immediate surgery in Puebla. The doctors were able to repair the ruptured area using platinum coils which stopped the internal bleeding in her brain. With the aneurysm and the swelling in her brain after the surgery, Perla’s speech and physical abilities were affected although she showed real improvement as the days past.

In mid November Perla went for a medical checkup and procedure in Puebla and the doctors treated another area that was at risk of rupturing. The same process was used but this time the surgery was not as smooth and there were complications. Perla is now seriously handicapped on her right side, with very limited physical ability and requires continual care. Physical therapy is helping slowly.

It appears the damage to the brain may be permanent and that physical therapy will help but how much is uncertain. A number of questions remain about what could be done to help her. We at Kimray want to arrange for an examination in the United States and get a second opinion on her condition and therapy. A group of neurosurgeons at Oklahoma City’s Mercy Hospital have reviewed Perla’s case and have agreed to perform additional diagnostics to determine whether more can be done. There is no promise that significant improvement can be made, but this young woman is too precious not to have these questions answered.

I am writing you to ask for donations to cover the cost of her travel, living, and medical expenses. Perla is an intelligent and beautiful young woman in the prime of life and was anticipating her marriage in May. Mexico’s insurance coverage will not apply. Although the doctors have agreed to treat Perla at minimum cost, the diagnostics and care will be expensive.
